I have to admit, I square up my Flying Geese units. My seam allowance is just not up to par and they come out a little crooked when I'm sewing on the bias. Does anybody else have to do this? They turn out OK, but its just an extra step.
In between the steps for this quilt, I am working on blocks for Ocean Waves. I thought I had tons of half-square triangle units, but once I got started, not so much...So, I'm making triangle squares (and squaring them up) until Friday. Happy quilting!
Looking good! they will be absolutely perfect for piecing!
ReplyDeleteI like squaring my flying geese up also. They turn out much better for me and more accurate. I am using a wing clipper tool which helps size them perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThey look great! I love all those fun black and white prints.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you displayed your geese. I have to trim up, too, despite what I consider to be careful cutting and stitching. I usually cut off the corners for FG but I used EZ & Companion Angles this time.
ReplyDeleteLove the little foot prints in your black on whites! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I had to square every unit. I have added too much seam allowance.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I am not looking forward to the squaring up part but I have all week to do that, right? Do you think it'll actually get done? ;P
ReplyDeleteSpray starch is my best friend when piecing, particularly so when bias piecing :)
ReplyDeleteI always square up my parts...there is always something that slipped as I cut or who knows what. I, too am working on a blue & white Ocean Waves. What color is yours?
ReplyDeleteMy ocean waves quilt is scrappy and I'll probably make it rose colored, but I'm just working on the triangles now.
DeleteSuch a cute blog banner. Love the bright quilt...but the pup, OH MY! I had to do a bit of trimming too. I used the Easy and Companion rulers shown by Bonnie because I already own them. I like them a lot but I think I need to work on my machine 1/4' marking. Anyway, I think the geese will work. Your arrangement of geese in circle is so...tidy. Must have taken a few minutes to get so preciese. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI had to square off almost every unit too. I love the closeup of your fabric. I like to see if any of my fabric match someone else's and I don't have any of yours!! Goes to show you how much fabric is out there!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny- I do the same thing! It's amazing I don't see familar fabrics as often as you'd think.
DeleteLove your flying circle! I think lots of us have to do some trimming or squaring up. I'm picking up good tips along the way, but being sure to implement all of them every time is a bit more of a challenge for me. LOL!
ReplyDeleteWaving my hand here, in the "have to do some squaring up" group. I'm paying attention to the tips and hopefully eventually I will be able to implement all of them well enough to produce picture perfect piecing. In the meantime, thank goodness that fabric allows usto "fudge" a little to make it work. LOVE your flying geese circle--very fun!
ReplyDeleteI like your wreath of geese! Very pretty.

I, too, had to square up. This was the first time I used this method of making flying geese. Your's look great!
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that purples of all varieties go together so well. Your flying geese are gorgeous. I've got about 30 more to do on my second Easy Street.
ReplyDeleteTwo mystery quilts? That's ambitious:) Love your elongated 9-patches and ceiling fans.
DeleteYup, I have to square mine up too, so I make them a little bigger then cut them down.
ReplyDeleteLove the way you arranged your geese in the circle :) It's like circle time! :D
ReplyDeleteLove your wheel of purple geese! I admit that I have to trim at times.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your first pic of the circular geese - hmmmm...that itself is inspiration for a quilt block (I'm so easily distracted..haha)...yes, I trim too!
ReplyDeleteLove your circle of flying geese...neat.
ReplyDeleteOh, my...i think id better go square up some geese. Didn't think of that, thanks! love your foot prints, i believe is have this same ones. or very similar.
